Mission: Making Disciples &

Ministry: Sharing the Love

Core Values:

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.         1 John 4:7-8

God’s goal is for us to become mature adults—to be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ. As a result, we aren’t supposed to be infants any longer who can be tossed and blown around by every wind that comes from teaching with deceitful scheming and the tricks people play to deliberately mislead others.  Instead, by speaking the truth with love, let’s grow in every way into Christ, who is the head. The whole body grows from him, as it is joined and held together by all the supporting ligaments. The body makes itself grow in that it builds itself up with love as each one does their part.                    Ephesians 4:13b - 16

This community tries to live this way. We:

  1. Apprentice ourselves to Jesus Christ, who is our Way to the kindom of God; Jesus' kindom is about relationships, it's about sharing the love, it's about service, not privilege.
  2. Respect the faithfulness of others who have other names for the gate to God's kindom
  3. Think that the way we treat one another and others is a better gauge of what we believe than any creeds or statements or words we voice
  4. Share bread and cup in remembrance of Jesus and as a foretaste of God's banquet for all peoples: love wins!
  5. Welcome persons with extravagant grace, radical inclusion, & relentless compassion, whatever their life circumstance, including those of every theological perspective, age, race, culture, nationality, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, mental and physical ability, economic condition, and marital status
  6. Embrace meaning and mystery, challenge and grace; are seeking doubters & questioning believers
  7. Celebrate and exercise the Spirit's gifts, required for service in the world: striving for justice, reconciliation, and peace among all people, and bringing hope and healing to those Jesus called the least of his sisters and brothers
  8. Choose costly discipleship: seeking justice, sharing tenderness, and living with humility, for Christ came to serve, not to be served, and he is our model

About the UCC

The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a non-hierarchical church of 1.4 million members, and all called to ministry by baptism. Its 6,000 congregations have the freedom and indeed the constitutional call to organize their own life and ministry under the guidance of Christ, the sole head of the church; The UCC is a progressive denomination that balances congregational autonomy with shared commitment to the unity of the Church within the denomination and beyond. While preserving relevant portions of heritage and history dating back to the 16th century, the UCC and its forebears have proven themselves to be unafraid to move forward, tying faith to social justice and shaping cutting edge theology and service to an ever-changing world. For more information, visit http://www.stillspeaking.com.

About the UCC

Preamble to the Constitution of the United Church of Christ, article 2

The United Church of Christ acknowledges as its sole Head, Jesus Christ, Son of God and Savior. We acknowledge as kindred in Christ all who share in this confession. We look to the Word of God in the Scriptures, and to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, to prosper creative and redemptive work in the world. We claim as our own the faith of the historic Church expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed in the basic insights of the Protestant Reformers. We affirm the responsibility of the Church in each generation to make this faith our own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God. In accordance with the teaching of our Lord and the practice prevailing among evangelical Christians, we recognize two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
