Mission, Justice & Outreach
Here at First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, we are a diverse community committed to the United Church of Christ's motto "That They May All Be One" to ensure all people know they are welcome in God's holy family and to share our love of God and Jesus Christ with one another. We educate all ages on justice and equality. We reach out to all people in need within our own church and throughout our global community! We strive each day to educate ourselves in being good stewards and disciples of Christ. We want to share with you what plans we have at First Church for 2012 - 2013. You will see special events, prayer services and fundraisers for organizations in need. All events are open for everyone to attend. We welcome you and Jesus welcomes you just as you are! We are making disciples and sharing the love each and every day! Christine Harlow-Harris, Member Mission, Justice & Outreach Committee |

Quilts for the Homeless Beginning in February, come and help make beautiful quilts for the homeless in West Springfield. We will be meeting the second Saturday of every month from 9:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Guild Room and will run through June, 2012. (Lunch will be provided for the month of February.) NOTE: If you have any FULL-sized flat sheets (no fitted sheets) and T-Shirts that you can bring with you and donate to this project that would be much appreciated! We also need men's neckties. (All other items will be supplied.) Please also look for a box outside the door of the Fellowship Hall for flat sheet & T-Shirt donations. No sewing experience is necessary and all ages are welcome to participate! It is very spiritually rewarding to create a quilt that will help keep someone warm. This mission project is dear to my heart and I am looking forward to your participation! Many Blessings, Christine Harlow-Harris |
Do you know Pendo? Pendo Kazungu was born on 5/30/2002 and lives in Marafa, Kenya. She is attending Primary School, she likes to play netball, her favorite season is Christmas, and she is in satisfactory health. She lives with her parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. But, her parents struggle to provide for the family. They live in a community severely affected by HIV/AIDS. In some communities, AIDS affects the entire social structure as a generation of hardworking adults is being wiped out. Frightened children and exhausted grandparents rarely have money for food, school, or medical care. But, you can help Pendo and her family! Through sponsorship, we help with these and other basic needs for Pendo and her family! For more information on Pendo and how you can help her and her family, please stop by and take a look at the bulletin board outside of the church library. (Pictured below is Pendo.) |

First Church Partners With Habitat for Humanity On Sunday, March 4, 12 students from Boston College will become our guests at First Church. They will spend the week working on the new-build Habitat House at 44 Dexter St in Springfield. First Church will house and feed them. YOU CAN HELP ! 1. We need cots for the students, and 2. Meal planning and preparation for their evening meal. The mission team will provide the money for the meals - we need your help choosing menus and readying the suppers for the student's last minute preparations. Lastly, if you would be willing to videotape some interviews with the students during the week, please let us know. If you want to be part of this exciting ministry, please volunteer by telling Diana Forfa or Pastor Jan. Thanks! |
