Worship Services for Peace

Second Sunday in May - Julia Ward Howe's Original
                                 Mother's Day Proclamation for Peace
Third Sunday September - International Day of Peace
Fourth Sunday in January - Nonviolent Resistance
                                                for Peace & Justice

Psalm 34 tells us to Seek peace and Pursue it. At least three times a year, the theme of our worship services is the pursuit of peace: in our individual lives, in our families and communities, and in our world. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. We who follow him receive his peace that passes understanding, and reflect his peace to the world.

If you yearn for peace, within and without;
if you realize that peace comes with a price, and that price is manifest in justice for all;
if you sense the world could do better;
please worship with us on these Peace Sundays.
A grandfather from the Cherokee nation was talking with his grandson. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

"One wolf is evil and ugly. He is anger, envy, war, greed, self-pity, regret, guilt, resentment, lies, false pride, superiority, selfishness, and arrogance.

"The other wolf is beautiful and good. He is friendly, joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness,
benevolence, justice, fairness, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, gratitude, and deep vision. This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other human as well."

The grandson paused in deep reflection because of what his grandfather had just said. Then he finally cried out, "Oyee, Grandfather! Which wolf will win?!"

The elder Cherokee answered,
"The one that you feed."

The dream of a liberator, and the dream of peace, is not merely a dream. The liberator is already present and his power is already among us. We can follow him, even today making visible something of the peace, liberty and righteousness of the kingdom that he will complete. It is no longer impossible.  Jürgen Moltmann, The Power of the Powerless
